Motorists who travel along Genesis Road in Cumberland County will face a four-month long detour because of road construction.
T-DOT’s Rae Anne Bradley said the closure is near Catoosa Canyon Drive. Workers will replace a cross drain, to repair a failing slope. Bradley said efforts were made to try and keep traffic flowing during the repairs.
“Designers worked for over three months on a solution to keep at least one lane open,” Bradley said. “But after all that effort, it was determined that the only, like, real feasible way to repair the area in a timely manner was to close this section of roadway fully.”
Bradley said T-DOT understands detours are lengthy and inconvenient. That’s why they want to know what motorists think.
“We understand that it can still be confusing for drivers if they are not familiar with the detour or they don’t travel this stretch of road frequently,” Bradley said. ” So, you know, if drivers do encounter any issues navigating this posted detour, please let us know. We value your feedback.”
Bradley said a part of the closure process is for crews to keep a close eye on the signage pertaining to the detour to determine if anything needs to change.
“Our inspectors on this project drive and navigate that posted detour pretty frequently, monitoring the conditions as the construction progresses,” Bradley said. ” So, our folks are pretty familiar with the detour.”
Bradley said this project is scheduled to be completed by September 30.
