Another bid, another over-budget price for Cookeville’s Spring Street sidewalk project, with hase two coming in $20,000 over projections.
The city council rejected the first round of bids for phase two of the project. One of the two bids was over budget, and the other bid did not acknowledge an addendum. Community Development Director Jon Ward said this time around, the project only received one bid of an estimated $913,000.
Ward said the project will install approximately 2,400 linear feet of sidewalk on East Spring Street, between Raider Drive and the western entrance of the old Armory. Ward said he would like to get the project going while school is out this summer.
Ward said the bid is subject to T-DOT’s approval. Ward said the information has already been provided to T-DOT.
“There were only a couple of items in the bid that were in question,” Ward said. “That was some traffic control costs and some topsoil numbers, but the engineer is confident that TDOT will approve what’s been provided.”
The city council will also consider executing an agreement with HMB Professional Engineers for Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) Services for phase two of the project.
The project has been delayed as costs have risen significantly during the process. City Council will vote Thursday.
