Cumberland, Annual Police Memorial Service This Thursday

Cumberland County’s Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #38 will hold its annual Police Memorial Service Thursday.

Lodge President Dustin Jackson said the event honors officers who have passed away and those who lost their life in the line of duty. Jackson said he hopes everyone who attends is moved by the ceremony.

“For the families, I hope that they feel that we have honored their loved ones properly,” Jackson said. “And for anyone else, I hope they honestly understand the..the sacrifice and commitment that the, you know, the people attending go through day to day to do this job.”

Jackson said that most law enforcement officers form a type of brotherhood because of the work they do.

“We spend as much time with one another, if not more than we do with our families,” Jackson said. “And with, with that, you develop pretty strong bonds and a comradery with one another. You know, given what we go through with high stress situations.”

Jackson said officers must have a strong family in order to do their job.

“Our loved ones are the reason we do it,” Jackson said. “And honestly, you can’t do the job without a good support system at home. And I mean, just keep in mind that they’re lending their mother, father, loved on to keep everyone else’s family safe.”

This year’s Police Memorial Service will be this Thursday at 11:00am at the amphitheater in front of the Art Circle Public Library in Crossville.
