Warren’s Reno Sets Personal Best in Sub Sectional Meet

Warren County Pioneer Keyton Reno won the high jump last weekend to advance to sectionals.

Reno cleared the six feet, two inch mark at the meet last weekend. Reno’s previous high had been five feet, ten inches. Reno said he had wanted to clear the six foot, two inch mark since he first began high jumping.

“When I got there, I warmed up, I felt real good,” Reno said. “As soon as I took off for my first jump, I cleared it perfectly and that’s how I knew I was gonna get [to six feet, two inches.]”

The state championships begin Tuesday, May 20th. Reno will need to qualify in the upcoming sectional round before achieving his goal. Reno said he thinks about it every night.

“I’m gonna get me some good sleep,” Reno said. “And I’m gonna just tell myself every day I’m gonna make it.”

Warren County Track and Field Head Coach Jeremy Wilhelm said Reno has changed his approach this year.

“He’s done really good with us this year,” Wilhelm said. “He’s come in with a different mind frame.”

Reno said he had struggled to jump over five feet, ten inches this year. Reno said he got some help from Devin Fish, a friend of Reno’s who plays on Warren County’s basketball team.

“[Devin] being there to support me while I’m supporting him, it just feels great.” Reno said.
