York’s Tallent Growing Confident at Catcher, Second

York Senior Baseball Player Tanner Tallent showcases his skills across the infield.

Senior Tanner Tallent started catching during his junior year. He has started games at both catcher and second base this season. Tallent said this season feels different compared to others.

“The communication and the guys that are out there are just, they’ve been talking more, we’ve had more energy, a little bit more of everything.” Tallent said.

Tanner played catcher and homered for the Dragons in their most recent game against Upperman. He said his favorite part of catching is framing pitches.

“I can help the, widen the strike zone for my pitcher so he can hopefully locate a little better, make the other team have to widen their strike zone out.” Tallent said.

Tallent said his dad helped him get into the sport.

“He was always a little harder on me.” Tallent said. “He’d always push me to better myself in baseball and everything else.”

Senior Tanner Tallent started his baseball career at age three. He played second base during that time. Over time, Tanner started to catch after he got bigger and stronger. Tanner said he expects to hit close to .500 this season with five home runs.

“I’d like to see these guys get back and make some noise come tournament time cause they deserve it.” York Baseball Head Coach Adam Bowden said.
