White County’s Walker Credits Dad for Baseball Passion

White County freshman baseball player Gage Walker said he started playing baseball at age three.

Gage started playing baseball with help from his dad. He then started playing travel ball and has played competitively ever since. Walker said he credits his dad with the amount of practice and drills they ran.

“We just put a lot of effort, time, money into this.” Walker said. “I’ve really been working on this a lot and I just really enjoy the process of it, as well as what the outcome is and winning and competing with others. It’s just great.”

Walker currently stands as the starting shortstop for White County this season. He said he enjoyed the team’s most recent trip to Alabama.

“It’s a fun time, you know, hanging out with your best friends and making great memories, going to the beach, having a cold plunge at 6 am in the morning, it’s just a great time and a fun time.” Walker said.

White County finished 2-2 in last week’s Gulf Shores Classic. They currently stand 3-5 on the season. Walker said he enjoyed being around the guys he travels with.

“Really the group of guys, the traveling, the fun, always having fun when your’e on the baseball field with your friends, having a good time winning, competing, it’s just, I’ve always seen it as fun and I just love the game.” Walker said.

Walker said his goals include winning the district and hit above .500 this season. He currently sports a batting average of .573.

“It’s just my whole life basically. All I’ve been doing.” Walker said.
