White County Softball Filled with Seniors to Begin Season

The White County Warriors Softball Team return almost all of its entire starting lineup for this season.

They ended last year 6-13, losing in the second round of district tournament play to end their season. Manager Jerry Roberts said his first few games have given some of his younger girls a chance to make their mark on the team.

“It’s been really well.” Roberts said. “I’ve had to coach for sure, but just moving some girls around in some positions that they haven’t played for and also playing some younger girls while I have three upperclassmen that are still playing in basketball.”

Among those returning for Roberts and White County this season is catcher Maddie Rust, who stands as the only starter from their run to sub-state in 2022. White County begins their three game week Monday night against Warren County.

“Something that I saw that this team really needed the very first game was some scrapp[iness] about us.” Roberts said.

White County walked off their first game against Clay County Friday night, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

“That showed a lot of scrapp[iness] from this team.” Roberts said. “Offensively and defensively, pitching, I think we potentially are an experienced bunch and have a lot of capabilities.”

White County awaits three of their seniors to return after their basketball season is complete. The girls season will end no later than Saturday, with their first basketball game scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The White County Warriorettes will look for their first ever trip to the state tournament.
