Warren’s Saldana Sets New Personal Best in Subsectionals

Warren County Pioneer Luke Saldana broke his old record for shot put in the subsectional round.

Luke set a new personal best in the event on his final throw. The throw was enough to defeat all competitors by ten feet. Saldana said everything seems to be coming together at the right time.

“Every hour, you know, every training session I put into this, you know, it leads up to these moments where I need it the most,” Saldana said. “And when it finally pays off, it means whatever I did to get to this position went right.”

Luke Saldana will become one of two Warren County Pioneers to advance to sectionals. Saldana said he knew he was moving on as soon as he stepped in for his third throw.

“I got that crowd going and energy was building, my adrealine was going and, just seem like everything came at the right spot.” Saldana said. “I’m just here to domintae and hopfully win a state championship.”

Saldana said the community has also shown him support.

“It all starts with the people around me,” Saldana said. “My dad being my coach…he’s right there, you know, two hours a day every single day and even in the weight room, you know, we’re getting everything right. Everything’s in the right place at the right time.”

The journey for Luke Saldana is years in the making. Luke started shot putting in his eighth grade year. Saldana said he hopes to continue shot put in college.

“At the end of the day, I just want to be the best and do whatever it takes,” Saldana said.
