The Warren County Pioneers season looks to continue to grow their team in the off-season.
Warren ended the season at 20-8 in the regional quarterfinal. They closed the season having lost both of their district tournament games, followed by their regional quarterfinal loss to Franklin. Warren Head Coach Danny Fish said his team struggled shooting the ball to end the season.
“We had opportunities in that game to knife and cut into the lead that they had on us.” Fish said. “Our guys played hard and they got after it. They weren’t intimidated by a team that traditionally is very good which shows us where we’re at with our program.”
Warren ended the regular season 9-1 in the district. They began tournament play as the number one seed in District 9AAAA.
“As regular season district champs is a good notch in our guy’s belt with predominantly our whole team returning next year.” Fish said. “I didn’t want the season to end [last week,] I didn’t think the guys did either.”
All five starters return for Warren next season, along with their top two bench scorers.
“We only had two returning starters last year starting on this team.” Fish said. “The jump that they made from their sophomore years to their junior years was a pretty big jump and we have all those guys coming back as projected starters next year.”
Fish said he talks to his team all the time about how nothing is inconsequential. Fish said they intend to discuss individual plans next week in exit meetings.
The Warren County Pioneers remain in search of their first appearance in a state tournament.
