Warren County Baseball Preparing For Youth Move

The Warren County Pioneers Baseball Team begins the season looking to solve their position battles.

Last season, the Pioneers made it to the second round of the district 9AAAA tournament, where they lost to Shelbyville to end their season. The off-season saw the Pioneers graduate six of their seniors for both pitching and hitting. Head Coach Phillip King said he will miss those seniors, most of whom leave as part of the All-District team.

“We didn’t do a great job last year of helping those guys out.” King said. “What I’m hoping going from last year to this year is some of those guys are gonna step up.”

King said most of his positional players might see some battles at the start of the year heading into district play. Warren opens their season March 10th against Moore County.

“One of the things that we didn’t do very well last year that we hope to improve on is, we got some arms, but we weren’t really consistent.” King said. “There are a handful of guys that we’d run out there, that, we hope you got it today.”

King said his team last season would put themselves in bad spots too often.

“If we’re just giving people free bases, we’re not gonna win a lot of games if that’s the trend that continues.” King said.

King returns seven seniors on his squad this season, all of whom have played on the team for all four seasons. His team will see the remaining positions get filled based on how non-district play goes.

Warren looks for their first run past district since the 2021 season.
