Van Buren Girls Tennis player Erin Sullivan is going through a change in her sporting career.
Sullivan started taking up tennis last year after Head Coach Eian Brown convinced her to join. Sullivan had been a cheerleader prior to taking up tennis. Sullivan said she wanted to look into other sports prior to joining.
“I was really nervous at first.” Sullivan said. “Trying something new was terrifying but he was really supportive and he talked about the tennis team and what a good culture they all have and that really convinced me to join.”
Sullivan is a senior for Van Buren High School. Sullivan said tennis is a lot more competitive than cheer-leading.
“Tennis it’s more one on one and competitive and you get more brothers and sisters while playing.” Sullivan said.
Sullivan said she was really nervous to join the team initially.
“I had to go half and half between cheer and tennis. I had to leave my cheer-leading practice about 45 minutes into it and then go to the tennis trial.” Sullivan said. “And I remember walking across the road to the tennis courts and I was just shaking.”
Sullivan said she wants to continue playing tennis after graduating Van Buren.
“Van Buren girls tennis has been one of the best experiences of my life.” Sullivan said. “It’s made me grow as a person and I’m so glad I made that jump and took the team.”
