Tech Track and Field Expecting Top 3 Outdoor Season

Tennessee Tech Track and Field Head Coach Peter Dalton said he expects his team to be on the podium in every track and field event.

Last season, the Golden Eaglettes finished their season in the OVC Outdoor Championships. They completed the three day event with a fifth place finish.

“I assessed it as a huge positive.” Dalton said. “I think some people coming out of it felt we, you know, could have been a couple points higher, and we could have, you know, we scored in a lot of events, we just didn’t score heavy enough in the number of events.”

Tennessee Tech includes a sprints team with only two ladies as upperclassmen. They begin their outdoor season March 27th traveling to St. Louis, Missouri.

“We’re very, very pleased with the progress.” Dalton said. “We really need to push out now and go out for a top, top finish during the season.”

Dalton said he shared with the team his goals for this season.

“We want in many, many individual events a podium person and a person that can score, which is top eight also.” Dalton said. “We have sat down after the indoor season, assessed where our strengths are, recognize what our weaknesses are, and set those goals for podiums and scoring positions in multiple events during the postseason and we’re just excited to get going.”

Tennessee Tech looks for their first outdoor meet in the NCAA Preliminaries since the 2018-19 season. Among the returnees this outdoor season is sophomore Naomy Lokiles, who returned to the podium in the recent Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Golden Eaglettes finished in sixth place out of 11 teams in February’s Indoor Championship.
