Stone’s Warlick Acting As Leader For Panthers Soccer

Stone Memorial Boys Soccer player Jonathan Warlick has stepped up for the Panthers.

A senior at Stone Memorial High School, Warlick started playing soccer at the age of four. He has played soccer for the last 15 years. Warlick currently leads the team in goals scored and minutes played. Warlick said he wants to set an example in his final year at Stone.

“I’d like to continue to do my team well.” Warlick said. “It’s not allowing me to do anything special. Just got to do my part, I know they’ll do theirs and hopefully just keep winning games.”

Stone currently sports a 9-1 record. Warlick’s dad acted as Jonathan’s coach for his first few teams. Warlick said that opportunity also helped him along the way.

“It’s very encouraging.” Warlick said. “I mean, he’s always been there for me as a coach and as a dad so it’s always nice to have that extra boost.”

Warlick said he enjoys spending time with his fellow seniors.

“It’s incredibly important.” Warlick said. “I mean it translates on the field, we’re close on and off the field so we just like know we’re gonna pass, know we’re gonna make runs, and yeah just, it really does help when you know who you’re playing with.”

Jonathan has played with the same group of guys since junior varsity. The Panthers currently boast a six game win streak. Warlick said he has seen resilience from his team during that win streak.

Warlick and the Stone Memorial Panthers will look to extend the streak to seven in their next game against Cumberland County.
