Putnam Solid Waste Will Soon Accept Credit Cards

Beginning Thursday, Putnam County residents can pay for disposing their waste at the landfill with debit and credit cards.

Solid Waste Director Doug Ashburn said the department decided to add the credit card option after seeing an increase in the number of requests for it over the past few years.

“Well, with taking credit cards at the landfill and not cash, it’s a security improvement for our department,” Ashburn said. “And you’ll be able to pay your bill over the telephone, which should speed up the process a little.”

Ashburn said residents can still pay by check or cash at the main office located at the transfer station. Ashburn said it took a few months to get everything in place to accept credit cards.

“Well, just, it’s an audit issue, to make sure we stay in compliance and finding the right company to fit our department,” Ashburn said.

Ashburn said residents can set up account over the phone using their card to be billed monthly.

“Well, they can set up an account if they’re a business and they can get a credit application on line or in person here at the main office with the proper documentation and then that could be billed on net thirty.” Ashburn said.
