Jackson’s Brown Looking to Maintain Baseball Passion

Jackson County Blue Devils Baseball Player Kain Brown did not always love the sport of baseball.

The senior was born and raised in Jackson County. He has spent most of his life playing baseball, but has played basketball at times when he lost interest. Brown said one of his best friends got him back into baseball in middle school.

“I knew what the sport was but hadn’t really been big into it.” Brown said. “Eighth grade year, I was full time catching, that was about it. Eighth grade year went by pretty quick. Freshman year, pretty exciting to be a starter for the Jackson County Blue Devils.”

Brown remains a starting pitcher for the Blue Devils. He started pitching for the first time this season.

“He picked up on it pretty quick.” Jackson County Baseball Head Coach Alex Bray said. “Live arm, been very coachable, and he goes out and competes when he throws. He’s been one of our top guys this year with his arm and consistency so glad he can make the transition this year.”

Brown said he can throw three pitches with confidence.

“He’s got a lot of run, good outside run on his fastball that matches really well with his slider so it’s kind of hard to pick up the difference between the two.” Bray said. “His change-up really, when a guy’s out in front, he does a good job in throwing his change-up and mixing up speeds.”

Brown currently sports the third-lowest ERA for Jackson County this season. He also leads the team in triples with two. Brown said his main goal this season is for the Blue Devils to win their annual Alex Cassetty Classic Wood Bat Tournament.

Kain Brown and Jackson County will begin play in the tournament against the Cumberland County Jets.
