Cumberland County baseball player Eli Ostrander wants to send a bigger message every time he steps on the baseball diamond.
The senior started playing baseball at a very early age. He stands to conclude his senior year among top of the Cumberland County Jets in runs, hits, and RBIs. Despite the accomplishments, Ostrander said his dad taught him an important lesson when he first started playing.
“He had it to where we could show Christ to other people while I play,” Ostrander said. “And then I got pretty decent at the game and started to fall in love with it and played it ever since and help to keep Christ in the game.”
Ostrander stands as one of eight seniors on the Cumberland County baseball team. Ostrander said as he grew up, he became more aware of how much Christ meant to him.
“I’d say at a younger age it wasn’t as important to me until I got a more full understanding of who He was and my approach in life was different at that age,” Ostrander said. “I guess my walk with the Lord really picked up in high school.”
Ostrander said the coaching staff have helped him develop on the field.
“Coach [Tyler] Thompson has really been my biggest peer in baseball I think for developing me in who I am today,” Ostrander said. “So I feel like I wouldn’t be the person I am today without him.”
Ostrander said the first coaching he received was when he started on the varsity team with Head Coach Tyler Thompson. Eli Ostrander will be part of senior night April 29th. Cumberland will conclude their season that night against Warren County.
