Cookeville’s Romero Reflecting on Softball Career

Cookeville softball player Gabbi Romero is taking everything in this year.

Gabbi will graduate from Cookeville in May. She stands as one of the four seniors on the team this season. Romero said this year has some mixed emotions.

“I’m gonna miss definitely everybody that I’ve grown up with through the high school,” Romero said. “Definitely excited to see, you know, where the team goes after that. Only word I can describe it as is bittersweet.”

Romero said she has made a lot of memories with the team.

“Win or lose, I just know every time I go out there, I’m gonna have a great time with the team and the coaches,” Romero said. “It’s always a good time every time I step out on the field with them.”

Romero said she wants to give it her all down the stretch.

“I just want to see me like play every game to the fullest,” Romero said. “Every game I’ve had so far I’m like this is my last time coming to this field so might as well play the hardest, you know, have fun. If you make a mistake, it’s okay, like I’m here to have fun and enjoy my team, not be focused on a win or loss but the memories made during the game.”

Romero has seen most of her offensive stats rank in the top five among Lady Cavaliers this season. Among the stats she stands near the top in includes batting average, RBIs, and stolen bases. Romero is on pace to set new career highs in all three stats this season.

“I have enjoyed every second of it and after this year, there will be so much I’m going to miss,” Romero said.
