Clay County Softball Player Baylor Walden has one goal for herself and the Lady Bulldogs.
Junior Baylor Walden said she wants to make state this season. The appearance would mark the first ever one for the Lady Bulldogs. Walden said she wants to do it for her seniors.
“I just want to set an example. I want to do it for our community.” Walden said. “It’s just really, really exciting and nothing would beat going to state.”
Baylor Walden primarily plays at pitcher and shortstop for the Clay County Lady Bulldogs. She said she likes playing there because of all the action those positions deal with.
“I feel like when I’m on the mound, I really control the game quite a bit.” Walden said. “And I like that. I like being able to face the batters. I feel like it’s a competition between me and the batter and I want to win that every time. And at shortstop, I just like playing middle infield, being there with my teammates.”
Walden said when she plays shortstop, the infield combination of herself, third baseman Analiece Daily, second basemen Reagan Cherry, Jaid Walker, and Lila Birdwell, and first baseman Riley Baxter make for even more action.
“I played ball with them for years now.” Walden said. “We’ve gotten really close and I feel like that’s why our team is so good and we bond so well.”
Walden played travel ball and Little League with the other members of the infield. Walden said the entire team focuses on communicating and working together as a team.
“Softball is a team sport, you all got to be one.” Walden said. “There’s no I in team, it’s we.”
