Clay County Students Start Help Desk To Help With Tech

Clay County High School giving students a unique opportunity by implementing a student-led technology help desk.

Clay County High School Junior Witt Kaslikowski said the 12-students assist students, faculty, and staff in troubleshooting issues with their phones or computers. Kaslikowski said he and a fellow student took initiative to create the student-led help desk.

“Here at Clay County High School, we actually founded a local computer science club this year,” Kaslikowski said. “Senior Camden Baxter assisted me with that, so we both co-founded our computer science club, and we thought it would be a great way to integrate the community and teach students to learn to lead.”

Kaslikowski said help desk tickets can be submitted online through the school’s website, and then the help desk will work around the school day to assist with the issues. Kaslikowski said the opportunity to have a student-led help desk has been very rewarding.

“It feels great personally, but it’s more of a matter of teaching them what to do not only with that certain issue but troubleshooting further issues that may not be related, but teaching them how to find the solutions themselves and implement it,” Kaslikowski said.

Kaslikowski said hands-on learning is the best way for students and teachers to better understand technology. Kaslikowski said some of the students know more about the technology than some of the teachers.

“Today is an online world more than ever, and young students have to adapt,” Kaslikowski said. “I’d say our teachers are doing a great job of adapting as well, but it’s hard to compete with the younger generation who have had it their whole lives.”

Kaslikowski said he hopes to see more students get involved with the student-led help desk at Clay County High School. Kaslikowski said that more students on the help desk would allow the help desk to have faster service and a wider range of coverage.
