Clarkrange Softball Showing Grit in District Tournament

The Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes continue to make progress in district tournament play.

Clarkrange has started the month of May with two wins. They defeated Pickett County at home 16-7 before defeating Red Boiling Springs on Monday in the first round of the district tournament. Clarkrange Head Coach Brittany Cooper said her team has shown grit all season long.

“If it’s something as simple as hustling off the field or, you know, really hustling to make just that little extra bit of effort to kind of make a play, I think that’s definitely been a big thing that I’ve seen a difference in this season and especially have as we went along going into the tournament season.” Cooper said.

This season marks the Lady Buffaloes’ deepest run in the playoffs since the 2018 season. Cooper said she has seen growth and maturity out of the Lady Buffaloes.

“I think that the team has begun to click really well with each other,” Cooper said. “I think as long as my girls come out with a great attitude and a good effort, I think we’ll see a really good ball game.”

Cooper said the effort she has seen has also improved in past years.

“It’s different than it has been in past years,” Cooper said. “I think that they know that there are expectations that are set for them.”

Clarkrange advanced to the second round of the tournament with the win over Red Boiling Springs. The Lady Buffaloes will face Gordonsville in the next round. Gordonsville has ended Clarkrange’s season every year since 2021, when Clarkrange moved up from District 6 to District 7.

Clarkrange will look for their first ever appearance in the state tournament.
