LA’s Cross To Become Next Jackson High Principal

Livingston Academy Assistant Principal Brandon Cross will serve as Principal at Jackson County High School.

The Jackson County School Board approved the hiring of Cross during Thursday night’s school board meeting. Director of Schools Jason Hardy said Cross spent seven years with Jackson County Schools as a math teacher before becoming the assistant principal at Livingston Academy.

“He was a very successful teacher here, that and along with his high IQ when it comes to high school athletics, and academics, and CTE, and all of the things that go with that job,” Hardy said. “It’s not an easy job, so him being in that most of his career was really really helpful and one of the key reasons that we’ve hired him.”

Cross will begin work after this school year is complete.

Former Jackson County High School Principal Max Petett passed away in February. Jackson County High School Assistant Principal Jay Halfacre served as the interim principal over the last three months.

“A big credit goes to all of our teachers, our staff, our kids, to take a tragedy and go forward,” Hardy said. “Can’t say enough good things about Mr. Halfacre and the high school staff, but I think everybody is gonna feel better now that we got a principal and an assistant principal back in the same building.”

In other business, the board approved an estimated $27,000 bid to replace the gym floor at Dodson Branch Elementary. The board approved an estimated $15,000 bid to replace a section of security fencing at Gainesboro Elementary School.

The board had a brief discussion on whether the contractor had a personal business license. Maintenance Supervisor Josh Morgan said he made that one of the requirements for the bids, but could not confirm if the low bidder had a license. The board approved the low bid on the contingency that the contractor has a personal business license.
