The White County Warrior Youth Football organization is planning to construct a field house at the County’s Recreational Complex.
White County Warrior Youth Football President J.D. Humphrey said the 30 by 40 foot pole barn will be on the north end of the football field. Humphrey said the current storage building is too small, old and it sits right on the road.
“We’ve had a couple of situations where, you know, just folks in the community are driving kind of fast down the road, and the door’s about five feet from the road,” Humphrey said. “And the kid, we had one kid that a coach had to grab and yank back because he was about to get run over.”
Humphrey said the $35,000 facility would have a loft for storing the players’ gear. Humphrey said this would allow enough room on the floor for a practice area. Humphrey said that area would be used when the weather is bad and also during the off season.
“It never fails, that off-season workouts are, are where you make the great jump,” Humprey said. “That’s where kids go from being ordinary to extraordinary. So, if we had our own field house there, that we could do off season works outs and store our equipment in, I believe that we would see a higher quality of athlete come out of White County.”
Humphrey said they have already received donations for about $25,000 of the estimated $35,000 needed to complete the field house. Humphrey said the group is planning some fundraisers to try and keep from dipping into the their savings.
“They’ve gotten a hold of a few different fundraising type organizations, one of them being Little Caesar’s,” Humphrey said. “You know, just different companies that will help you with fundraiser. And they are trying to work out what we need for the final push to get us where we don’t have to worry.”
Humphrey said because the field house is on county property the group has to get the approval of the county attorney and the county commission. Humphrey said the county’s parks and recreation committee has already approved their plans.
Humphrey said they are hopeful to have the field house ready this fall.
