Unity Church of the Cumberlands wants to purchase property on Lindenwood Drive in Algood to relocate the facility.
In March, Unity Church sold its previous facility on 10th Street in Cookeville and has been holding services in the Wesley Foundation’s Community Theater. Minister Ann Marie Beale said the church is in the process of buying a property and going through the zoning process.
“We feel like that’s a really good location close to (Highway) 111,” Beale said. “We have people coming from all directions far away, and this is just a real easy place to find us, and it’s a real peaceful little spot.”
Beale said the building will be designed to seat 200 people and will also feature a sanctuary, fellowship hall, and classroom space. Beale said the church is still putting together site plans that would need further approval from the planning commission.
“We have some amateur plans, and we have hired an engineer who is going to put them into more professional plans,” Beale said.
Beale said the church is looking to build the church in stages as funding becomes available. Beale said the church plans to construct the sanctuary first.
“We are not rushing it, but we are gonna move along as smoothly as we can,” Beale said. “So we are looking hopefully within a year to have a good start on that first part.”
Beale said the church has met the potential new neighbors and said the neighbors are happy with them moving into the neighborhood. Beale said she and the rest of the church look forward to building a new facility.
