Crossville’s Power Of 100 Women Making First Donation

A new non-profit wants to impact Cumberland County through quarterly donations of $100.

The Power of 100 Women started several months ago. President and Founder Sheryl Webb said 100 foundation members make a quarterly donation of $100 each, which is then donated to a charity chosen by the board. Webb said the foundation selects one of three member-nominated charities to receive the collective donation of $10,000.

“There’s so many people with such a heart for service in this community,” Webb said. “And so when you look around and see the need, and see all of these nonprofits out there who are trying to make a difference, and you know, you just think what $10,000 would do to boost really any organization.”

Webb said she was inspired to start the Crossville chapter after hearing about other chapters. Webb said Creative Compassion will receive the first donation after a vote last week.

Webb said she posted the idea on social media late last year, and the response was better than expected.

“My feed all of the sudden just blew up,” Webb said. “And my phone blew up. One of my friends called and said, ‘We just have to do this,” and so we did.”

Webb said that there is room for the organization to surpass 100 people. Webb said any extra donations would be handled as they come.

“We’re certainly not going to turn anyone away,” Webb said. “We’ll just be the Power of 100-plus women.”
