Life Church’s DUO Mobile Clinic will provide free medical services at Burks Middle School in Monterey Saturday.
The volunteer program offers free healthcare services to the community. Program Director Vincent Scardino said the ministry was born from a food delivery service during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Scardino said said the program expanded from mobile wellness checkups to separate buses for dental, haircuts, food, and vision care.
“Knowing that we’re making the impact we’re making on the community, on individuals, that are just in hard times, you know?” Scardino said. “When you have an opportunity to just love on somebody who feels like there’s no hope, it’s priceless to be able to do that.”
Scardino said members of Life Church and healthcare professionals volunteer with the program. Scardino said volunteers do not need to work in healthcare.
“We find them by word of mouth and by just, interaction,” Scardino said. “We find it very easy for people to sign up because the volunteers themselves are recruiting each other.”
Scardino said the program has impacted many people in need, regardless of circumstance.
“People are buying into it,” Scardino said. “They really want to be a part of this.”
