Livingston, Cumberland Square Off in District Tournament

The Wildcats and Jets will begin district tournament play Wednesday.

The baseball game marks one of the first district tournament games on the season. The matchup is set for Wednesday at 6 pm. Livingston Head Coach Jamie Loftis said his team is playing better than they did to start the year.

“We’ve done a lot of what I’ve asked them to do,” Loftis said. “We’ve taken better approaches at the plate, we’ve cut our strikeouts back so I mean we’re playing better going into the tournament.”

Cumberland County Head Coach Tyler Thompson said he wants to see his team improve offensively.

“We’ve got to make adjustments as the game goes,” Thompson said. “I think we’re starting to do a better job of making adjustments game to game but we need to get to where we’re making adjustments at bat by at bat and maybe even every pitch.”

Livingston enters the tournament 12-9. The Wildcats have won seven of their last nine games. Cumberland County sports a 9-12 record. The Jets have lost their last three games.

The matchup Wednesday will be the first time the Wildcats and Jets have battled since March 18th. Both teams each won one game in their two game series.

The winner will travel to face Upperman to face the Bees Thursday at 4. The loser will play earlier in the day Friday and will see their season end with a second loss.
