Overton Schools Director Offered Two Year Contract

The Overton County School Board approved a new two-year contract for Director Of Schools Donnie Holman during a Tuesday night work session.

The contract will be voted on next month. Board Chairman William Abston said the board added a survey of school system administrators to Holman’s evaluation.

“There was an increase in the salary,” Abston said. “We increased the salary for what all the teachers had been receiving over the past year, past couple of years, because we’ve had to raise the starting salary of teachers. So there was an increase in there that amounted to exactly what the teachers increase were increased.”

Abston said the contract calls for Holman to get a $13,000 a year salary boost.

“The contract had it around 95-thousand dollars,” Abston said. “It will go up to around 108-thousand, which again, just that increase that all the other teacher have seen over the past couple of years.”

Abston said the board amended one portion of the contract during the work session. Abston said the board addressed when the board could begin negotiating again at the end of the next two years.

“We have a couple of months before the contract expires that will allow us to renew,” Abston said. “So it will be two years before the end of the school year, which will, our fiscal year ends in June 30, so a couple of months before June 30, in the April board meeting, that is when we will decide, and it will be in 2027.”
