More Volunteers Needed Now For Two UCDD Programs

UCDD has a bigger need than usual right now for volunteers.

Program Support and Volunteer Coordinator Olivia Tillman said the development district is always looking for volunteers. Tillman said the development district needs volunteers for the State Health Insurance Assistance Program as well as the Public Guardianship Program.

“With the Public Guardianship Program, they would be going into the facilities and visiting our clients, and we ask that they go once a month, and then the other opportunity with the Public Guardianship Program is the office help,” Tillman said. “Just doing some office duties, scanning, filing, and things like that.”

Tillman said the volunteer opportunities are for anyone over 18 years old who can pass a background check. Tillman said the UCDD relies heavily on volunteers for its programs.

“Our programs would struggle, they would struggle,” Tillman said. “We wouldn’t have the lasting impact that we do on our clients that volunteers are able to provide.”

Tillman said volunteering in the Public Guardianship Program is a way for someone to give back to their community.

“Most of these clients are in facilities of some sort, and they have very little visitors,” Tillman said. “The conservator only has to lay eyes on them once a month, and that’s usually the only people they see while they are there, so volunteers are able to come in and play games with them, watch TV with them, and just sit down and have a simple conversation with them.”

If you are interested in volunteering, call UCDD.
