Warm Weather Here, Dogwood Park Fountain Open

With the weather warming up across the Upper Cumberland, people are now looking for ways to cool off.

Cookeville Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said Dogwood Park fountain has opened for the season.

“We encourage people to come by and just sit around it and enjoy the sound of it and the splash of it, or bring kids or adults too, to enjoy interacting in the fountain,” Woods said.

Woods said as more people come out to the park, they will notice the construction of the new park entrance and the Performing Arts Center restrooms. Woods said he is happy with how construction is going and that the project is a third of the way through.

“Much of the interior work is, I won’t say it’s complete but that’s gone a little bit faster over the winter months as you might expect, it’s easier to work indoors over the winter months and so the restroom facilities inside the Performing Arts Center you know, they are gonna be completed in the next month or two,” Woods said.

Woods said a lot of exterior work is still left to be done and will be completed during the summer months. Woods said the construction is in the way of people enjoying the park, but it will be worth the wait.

“It’s a minor inconvenience compared to what it’s going to be once it’s all complete, so we have to put up with that difficult time to be able to get to the time that it’s all completed and very nice and very useable and attractive and we are looking really forward to that time,” Woods said.

Woods said the new entrance will be a big boost to the park as many people did not know how to get into the park if they parked by the Performing Arts Center. Woods said he anticipates the construction to be completed by the end of September.
