Overton Arts Council Displays Art Around Livingston

The Overton County Arts Council wants to showcase local art around Livingston through its new Arts Around Town Program.

Council Member Tim Richardson said council members hope to expose more people in Overton County to art, some of which was sourced from participants of October’s Paint Livingston competition. Richardson said local government supported the idea.

“Not everybody can, you know, visit art museums or go to art galleries on a regular basis,” Richardson said. “This program brings art directly into the places the people in Overton County visit every day.”

Richardson said high traffic businesses, such as banks and city offices, will display art. Some paintings have already been hung.

“A beautiful painting called Memories by painter Matthew Maynard, that painting is being displayed in the West Main branch office of First National Bank,” Richardson said.

Richardson said people in town enjoy the paintings.

“As soon as people found out about it, they were very supportive,” Richardson said. “A lot of great comments coming into us from the community, who appreciates the ability to see local art.”

Richardson said most of the artwork depicts scenes from Overton County and the area.
