Dale Hollow Dam Road will remain closed for most of the 2025 lake season due to maintenance.
Dale Hollow Fairhouse Dam Superintendent Stanley Carter said the bridge section that goes over the spillway area has some concrete issues. Carter said most of the deterioration is underneath the bridge.
“They are gonna go in there, they are gonna chip out all of the spall area of the concrete, and as well as the rebar and replace all of that with new,” Carter said. “It has nothing to do with the integrity of the dam itself, this is just for the roadway.”
Carter said he has been pushing to get the maintenance started for the past several years. Carter said he expects the maintenance to take anywhere from eight months to a year to complete.
“They are gonna be working in the road or on the road to do this work,” Carter said. “The roadway itself, it’s a very narrow roadway, barely enough room for two cars to pass, so it’s pretty much you have to close the road to do this work.”
Carter said the maintenance is needed. However, Carter said there was no danger to those driving across the road.
“It’s nothing that is what I would say immediate, but it’s one of those things if you don’t address it in the early stages, like what it is right now, then if you let it progress, then it does become a problem,” Carter said.
Carter said Dale Hollow Dam Road is a road that is not heavily traveled. Carter said he understands that the road closure is a big inconvenience to some people, but the work must be done. The maintenance comes after the recent completion of repainting the dam’s spillway gates.
