Spencer has changed the day and time of municipal court to make it more accommodating to residents.
Spencer Municipal Court will be held held on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 pm. It is currently held on the first Tuesday of each month at 5 pm. Spencer Mayor Alisa Farmer said the change is essentially swapping from night court to day court.
“We have several in attendance to our court and quite a bit of people that are out of town that some drive quite a of bit of distance and it makes a difference in bad weather,” Farmer said.
Farmer said the city has actually considered changing the municipal court date and time for quite some time. Farmer said the change will not take effect until July.
“Because our officers now are writing citations effective for the June court systems so that’s the earliest we can get tit started,” Farmer said.
Farmer said she had conversations with the municipal court judge, the court clerk, and the police chief before proposing the change. Farmer said changing the date and time will not have a drastic impact on the departments.
“It’s not gonna be any change on them because they are on duty during the day as well as well as on duty at night, so it should be just fine,” Farmer said. “No changes in that whatsoever.”
