Fentress County Schools open Pre-K and Kindergarten registration Friday.
Pre-K Director Tammy Norman said parents can register their children in person at any elementary school or online. Norman said it is critical to register your child this Friday.
“We do have a limited number of slots,” Norman said. “Each class is only allowed 20 students. We do take them in time stamp order, so some of our schools may tend to fill up quicker than others, so it is important that you sign up on registration day instead of waiting in July.”
Norman said parents will need to bring a birth certificate, a form of income verification, a current immunization record, a current physical record, and proof of current address. Norman said many new parents often forget to bring some of the documents needed to register.
“Most of the time, if they forget something on registration day, we do give a grace period to get those documents to us,” Norman said. “It is an income-based program, so we fill up with our income-based qualifiers first, and then people who are over income, if we have open spots available, we can add them after September 15 of next year.”
Norman said parents who may have questions should try to register in person on Friday.
“It would be best to come in person if that’s possible,” Norman said. “You will also get to see the classrooms where your child will be attending if they come to Pre-K next year, and then we can answer any questions you may have.”
Pre-K and Kindergarten registration will run from Friday 8am-3pm. Norman said if parents are unable to register online or in person this Friday, they can still register their child by stopping by the Fentress County Board of Education Office to pick up a registration packet.
