Pickett County baseball head coach Jamie Cravens has announced his resignation.
The resignation will be effective at the end of the baseball season. Cravens said he told his team before the season in order that would be no distractions. Cravens said he has enjoyed all nine years as head coach of the Bobcats.
“It’s been a good nine years but it’s time for me to move on,” Cravens said. “I’ve made an announcement to the boys and a few of the parents that I’m close with that this will probably be my last year and I have 100 percent decided now that this will be my last year.”
Pickett County stands 7-9 on the season. Cravens said the decision came down to a few key factors.
“I want them to have a hundred percent chance of being successful,” Cravens said. “And I feel like I can’t give them the time they deserve for one.”
Cravens said the Bobcats have supported him throughout his tenure.
“For them to welcome me in, it’s meant a lot to me,” Cravens said. “I’m hoping I leave the program better than where I found it.”
Pickett County has begun their search for a new head coach. A coach is expected to be announced at the conclusion of the season. Their regular season will conclude Monday at York.
