Radhika (ROD-i-kuh) Miller will return to her stomping grounds next season.
Miller will begin her second stint as Cumberland County Lady Jets basketball head coach. The move comes after Randy Herring stepped down shortly after their season ended. Miller said she looks forward to this second chance.
“[I’m] excited to meet with the team, meet with the players, the parents, and to go to work for everyone there,” Miller said. “Just hoping to continue with the traditions of hard work, grit, and the realest work ethic that Lady Jets basketball is known for.”
The Lady Jets made it to the regional quarterfinals last season. They finished with a record of 17-14. Miller said she is appreciative of the support everyone at Cumberland County has given her.
“It’s always been a special place to me and it’s rare.” Miller said. “You don’t just find that anywhere.”
Miller returns with some of her former players at Cumberland County still there, along with her family and staff at the high school.
“[Cumberland County High School] has been built on tradition, hard work, grit, and a relentless work ethic and that’s what it means to be a Lady Jet.” Miller said. “So for me as a coach, that’s a coaching dream, you know, to be a part of a program where tradition already stands, so to come back and have that opportunity to lead that program again, it’s a blessing.”
Radhika Miller remains close to the Upper Cumberland and their basketball coaches. Among the ties Miller has is with Clarkrange Head Coach Lamar Rogers. Miller helped the Lady Buffaloes win the 1995 state championship with Rogers as coach.
Cumberland County Lady Jets will seek their first state appearance next season.
