Cookeville Senior Roberts Maintaining Attitude, Effort

Cookeville baseball player Jack Roberts said he prioritizes two main components of his game.

Attitude and effort are two traits that have defined the senior. He said he learned those traits at a young age through his father. Roberts said he knows how big keeping those things in check can be for himself and the team.

“It’s huge, it’s actually a lot of fun,” Roberts said. “I enjoy it. I enjoy pushing the people around me and I enjoy them pushing me too. It’s super fun.”

Roberts stands as one of nine seniors on Cookeville’s baseball team. Roberts said a recent example of the team pushing him happened when he was on the mound.

“We were getting runs put up on us quick and I did not do what I should have and get us out of the inning,” Roberts said. “I just let us down but we came back and won after that so it was good.”

Roberts said pitching means a lot to him.

“It’s an honor to pitch on such a caliber team,” Roberts said. “A 4A school in Tennessee is a big deal and to be a pitcher on that team is pretty high for me.”

Roberts sports an earned run average of 1.98 as a starter for Cookeville. The ERA stands third lowest on the team. Roberts throws five pitches on a regular basis.

“Jack’s a blessing,” Head Coach Derek Bush said. “Jack’s been such a great leader for our team.”
