“No Kings” Protest Set For Crossville Saturday

Indivisible Crossville will host a “No Kings” protest this Saturday, voicing frustrations about the actions of the Trump Administration.

Indivisible Crossville Facilitator Stuart Napear said the Trump administration are trying to eliminate the form of a democratic government. Napear said the protest is titled “No Kings” as this Saturday is the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution.

“In the American Revolution, they were fighting to map being under the control of the King of England,” Napear said. “We feel that the Trump administration and in particular, President Trump have acted as if they are kings and have no responsibilities to follow rules or regulations.”

Napear said the Trump administration has attacked several branches of the federal government that serve the people. Napear said the rally is aimed at spreading awareness of what is actually going on at the White House.

“I think the people in rural counties in Tennessee, certainly in our county, get information from a different set of providers that are feeding the view of the government in the form of Trump’s ideas and they don’t get very much alternative news so they don’t really see what’s being done,” Napear said.

Napear said President Trump has taken some responsibilities from Congress, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. Napear said he hopes the protest will give government officials the courage to stand up.

“That requires people like you and I who are citizens to write letters, make calls, and if they get enough of those letters and enough of those calls, they would hopefully be able to understand that this is not something that’s a concern of a couple of crazy liberals but no this is a concern for all citizens across the spectrum from Democracts, Republicans, and Independents,” Napear said.

Napear said Indivisible Crossville has planned for this to be a peaceful protest. Napear said getting violent is not the way to go.

The “No Kings” Protest will take place Saturday at the Cumberland County Courthouse from 1pm-3pm.
