UCDD Memorializes Jackson Mayor Heady

The UCDD Executive Board voted unanimously Wednesday to name the agency’s conference room in honor of one of its former chairman, the late Randy Heady.

The Jackson County Mayor passed away in January from cancer. He was 61. Smith County Mayor Jeff Mason said the gesture is a tribute to Heady’s years of service to the agency.

“This room has been and will continue to be a place where decisions are made that impact lives across the Upper Cumberland,” Mason said. “Now, it bears the name of someone who shaped this agency and this region for the better.”

Mason said Heady was a leader who led by example.

“He was steady, thoughtful, and deeply grounded in his values,” Mason said. “He didn’t seek the spotlight, but he always earned the respect and admiration of those around him. When challenges came, and often they do in this work, as all of us know, Randy met them with a calm presence and a sense of purpose.”

Mason said he wants the room dedication to be a chance for the executive board to rededicate themselves to the mission about which Heady cared so deeply.

“Let us work together with the same integrity, compassion and commitment that Randy modeled so well,” Mason said. “His leadership will echo with the decisions we make here and the progress we continue to pursue and the lives we strive to improve.”

Heady’s wife and children attended the Wednesday dedication.
