Qualls Named New Livingston Academy Football Coach

Livingston Academy has announced Assistant Coach Kaleb Qualls as the school’s next head football coach.

Qualls replaces former head coach Matthan Houser, who resigned for personal reasons. Livingston Academy Principal Richard Melton said the committee felt like Qualls was the best fit for the job.

“Well, it’s always best to go in-house if you can, but he just turns out to be qualified for the job,” Melton said. “He’s a good man, he’s worked hard, he’s been a clear professional and knowledgeable, and presents himself well, and I’m just 100 percent confident that he is the right choice.”

Melton said the hiring committee interviewed three candidates before settling on Qualls. Melton said he is looking forward to the football team’s new direction.

“You know, coaches see things differently, even though he worked for Coach Houser and Coach Houser did a great job,” Melton said. “Everyone has their own plan and their own vision, so I look forward to Coach Qualls’ new plan and vision.”

Melton said the players have a lot of respect for Qualls. Melton said when he announced the hiring to the football team, the team had quite a response.

“They all stood up and cheered for him, so it was nice to be in that weight room with him and to see their positive reaction for one of the coaches who has already been with them for a while,” Melton said.

Qualls graduated from Livingston Academy in 2015. Qualls played quarterback and defensive back during his playing days at Livingston Academy.
