Overton Commissioners Approve $1.3M In Road Equipment

The Overton County Commission voted unanimously Monday to allow the road superintendent to buy some $1.3 million in equipment.

Road Superintendent Tim Kennedy said his department needs backhoes, tractors, excavators and mowers. Kennedy said the current fleet is simply worn out.

“Every morning we are fixing something,” Kennedy said. “We are running a large number of dollars thru the shop every month and every week just to keep things going. At some point you gotta stop the bleeding and start over.”

Kennedy said he plans to look for the best deals on each piece of equipment including searching for used deals. Kennedy said once these purchases are made he can focus on purchasing products like asphalt, chips and oil to fix the county’s roads.

Kennedy said the money for the purchases will come from the county’s debt service fund.

“It’s one time money, it’s already there,” Kennedy said. “It is already there, it is not gonna cost no tax dollars.”

In other business, the county commission voted to accept a $577,866 bid to replace the Dogwalk Road Bridge.
