Celina Approved For Street Repaving Loan, Bids Next

Celina’s quest to find funding to repave streets within city limits is over as the town has been approved for a loan.

Alderman Kenny Westmoreland said the amount of the loan is still in the air as the town will have to bid out the project. Westmoreland said it took the city two years to get approved for the loan.

“It was not us we submitted the loan information a long time ago and it has just gone on and on and on,” Westmoreland said. “We’ve just waited and waited and waited, I don’t know what the hold-up has been but it was not from anything that we did.”

Westmoreland said the city expects the project to cost an estimated $2 million. Westmoreland said the aldermen are considering calling a special meeting later in April to send the project out for bids.

“We are planning on having another meeting very soon to deal with that,” Westmoreland said. “We are looking to have an additional meeting just to address the need to get this paving started and to find out who the low bidder is and all of that.”

Westmoreland said several streets have had potholes and damaged roads from the winter season. Westmoreland said some roads have not been repaved in quite some time.

“We’ve had places where we’ve had to dig in the past and just temporarily patch it and such and it will cover all of that,” Westmoreland said. “It would just give the entire city better streets for years to come.”

Westmoreland said the town will be able to handle the loan financially. Westmoreland said the aldermen want to see the town prosper and do what it takes to make Celina the best it can be.
