Two Lights For Tomorrow Kicks Off 250th Celebration

A year-long celebration called America 250 begins in the Upper Cumberland Friday, as the community remembers the 250th Anniversary of Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride.

Putnam County America 250 Committee Member Carol Teeters said this event is called Two Lights For Tomorrow. The two lights symbolize the two lanterns that shone in the Boston church the night the British began crossing the waters.

“Anyone that wants to participate at all to display two lights,” Teeters said. “It can be candles, lanterns, or any other type of illumination at your office, your business, your home.”

Teeters said the year-long events are an effort to remind folks how the United States of America began. Teeters said she hopes folks will think of the lights as symbols of hope and solidarity.

“The initiative, it’s not just a tribute to our past,” Teeters said. “But it’s a reminder that the message of light shining through the darkness remains relevant today and for the future.”

Teeters said the state capitol is set to participate in Two Lights For Tomorrow by hanging two lanterns in the cupola.
