TCAP Preparation From Parents Key For Better Results

TCAP testing is here and Putnam Testing Coordinator Jason Stickler said parents can help prepare for test day.

Stickler said a lot of Putnam County schools held pep rallies and other activities as part of preparation to create a positive environment around TCAP testing. Stickler said schools have done the necessary preparation to prepare students for the big test.

“We start at the very beginning of the year making sure that students are established in those classrooms and that our teachers are trained and ready to deliver the content from the Tennessee Department of Education,” Stickler said. “We have our content standards that teachers touch on every day throughout the year preparing students for TCAP testing.”

Stickler said getting a good night’s rest and a good breakfast also helps a student perform at their very best during TCAP testing.

“We try to get the message out there to our students through our teachers and also through the district as well, Just the importance of getting a good night’s rest you know the night before the test and also staying relaxed and very positive and really this is just a good time for our students to show us what they’ve learned throughout the year and then also getting that good nutritious breakfast in the morning kind of gets everything rolling for us first thing and then again just staying positive, good opportunity for students to show what they know,” Stickler said.

Stickler said he encourages parents to be part of preparing their children for the testing. Stickler said parents can also help prepare their children for TCAP testing by going over practice material with them.

“Every little bit helps you know, our teachers we have a great team of teachers and administrators but our parents and our community, they are a part of our team as well,” Stickler said. “So you know parents talking to their students at home letting them know that is that one time during the year to really show what you know and then like we have mentioned just making sure that students have that good night’s sleep the night before, eating that good breakfast the morning of and staying positive and relaxed throughout the test.”

Stickler said practice material can be found on the school system’s website or the Tennessee Department of Education’s website. Stickler said the school system is excited to see how the students do over the next two weeks.
