The Stone Memorial Panthers boys soccer team is off to one of the best starts in program history.
Stone Memorial started this season 9-2, including a six-game win streak. Head Coach Micah Grenz said a main goal of his is what he heard someone in Tennessee say once.
“There’s two things that don’t graduate: tradition and passion.” Grenz said. “And if nothing else the people in Crossville have a huge passion for both our schools in our town.”
Grenz said his other main goal as Stone Head Coach is to take the next steps as a program.
“I want our program to be one of the elite teams in the state. That’s like our long term goal.” Grenz said.
Grenz said he has seen people out of the Crossville area help the Panthers financially.
“That’s where it’s big.” Grenz said. “It’s one thing for someone to support a student while they’re in school and think they’re done but then when they graduate, they stop. Now we have people who have no association to us at all and it’s not just soccer, it’s basketball, it’s football, it’s, it’s all of our fine arts programs and stuff like that so as a coach, that’s where it’s been awesome to see that kind of fruition.”
Grenz currently is in his second year as a coach for Stone Memorial. He worked his first year as assistant coach. Prior to his tenure at Stone, Grenz had been out of soccer since moving to Tennessee 15 years ago.
“I wouldn’t do it for any other place other than Stone Memorial.” Grenz said.
