Clay Highway Superintendent Set For Court Monday

Facing charges of theft and three counts of official misconduct, Clay County Highway Superintendent Jason Browning on Monday’s court docket

An investigation by the comptroller’s office revealed that Browning allegedly misappropriated an estimated $57,000 in diesel fuel for his personal transportation business. That totals some 16,200 gallons of department-purchased fuel.

According to the Clay County Circuit Court Clerk’s office, the court appearance has been rescheduled three times already.

Clay County District Attorney Bryant Dunaway said he has asked a pro-tem prosecutor to handle the case due to a conflict.

Browning is scheduled to appear Monday morning at 9am.
