Tech Hosting Events To Attract Transfer Students

Tennessee Tech hosting a new event called “Transfer Tech To You” in an effort to reach students looking to change schools.

Associate Vice President for Enrollment and Student Success Mary McCaskey said the event allows the university to present what the university has to offer to potential transfer students. McCaskey said several departments will visit community colleges in Cookeville, Harriman and Knoxville.

“Instead of having the event on Tech’s campus, we are actually going to you know, the homes of the transfer students as far as the locations of like where they are,” McCaskey said. “Just trying to bring you know, Tennessee Tech directly to them as opposed to them having to come to our campus.”

McCaskey said one of the university’s goals is to increase the number of transfer students. McCaskey said the University hopes the event will be a game changer.

“I just think having you know, more scholarship opportunities for our transfer students,” McCaskey said. “A more you know, focus from a customer aspect to just really trying to be proactive with our students and help the transfer students get connected just with various departments on campus and the advisors, so I feel like we have really taken approach over the last couple of years to you know, make our transfer students feel and know that they are a priority and that is something that we are working very hard to do.”

McCaskey said the university is holding the event at community colleges as many students transfer to from the two-year facilities.

“This may not be the first place that you are able to come and so some of the students do end up going to a community college and that’s great, that’s okay,” McCaskey said. “We want them to know that we want to help them in that process that once they finish their associates or maybe gone for a year or two and are ready to come to a four-year institution that we are here.”

The next event set for Monday at Vol State in Cookeville, then April 22 at Roane State in Harriman.
