Future subdivisions in Putnam County must meet new delivery regulations after a Planning Commission vote.
Putnam County Planning Director Kevin Rush said the postal service had changed requirements that required some new subdivisions to have cluster boxes for mail delivery. Rush said the change will require developers to work with the postal service to determine the best mail delivery method for the developing subdivisions.
“The idea here is that during the subdivision process, the developer will be talking to the postmaster about the mail delivery for the subdivision,” Rush said. “If a cluster box unit is required they will know that going in and they can show it on a plat and then the postal service postmaster will have to sign off on the plat.”
Rush said the planning commission tabled a decision in March to allow developers and surveyors to talk to the postal service to get feedback on the proposed change. Rush said the commission did not receive any opposition to the change.
“None of the surveyors spoke against the requirement,” Rush said. “So I can’t speak for them but they had no opposition to them.”
Rush said the new changes will not apply to existing subdivisions and will only apply to new developing subdivisions going forward.
In other business, Rush said the planning commission approved preliminary plans for a small subdivision development located on Gainesboro Grade.
