Cumberland’s Hankins Bouncing Back in Senior Year

Cumberland County Jets baseball player Connor Hankins has overcome obstacles to get to where he is now.

Senior Connor Hankins lost his junior year to a torn ACL. Hankins had also been playing football and basketball for the Jets before the injury. Hankins said his concern this season is about the Jets going far in the district tournament.

“I want to see not just myself but I want to see this team go as far as possible in district because I know we have the people to do it,” Hankins said. “But with myself, I want to, I’ve been hitting the ball decently lately and I want to hopefully finish the season strong hitting and most importantly, I want to go deep in the playoffs.”

Hankins returned the football team for his senior year. He also rejoined the Jets basketball team for the first time since his freshman season. Hankins said this upcoming senior night will be extra special.

“I’ve tried to like lead the others, the other young kids and everything,” Hankins said. “I’ve been through two senior nights now in football and basketball and those nights are always special and I’m ready, I’m excited for it.”

Hankins said he has thought about what to do after graduating.

“So I originally thought about wanting to go play football somewhere,” Hankins said. “But just like the wear and tear it caused on my body and just like going through all that, like with the injury and everything, and it’s just a really tough sport.”

Hankins said he wants to give everything he has to whatever he does. Hankins hit a go ahead two run triple to defeat Stone Memorial in a recent victory. Hankins ranks tops on Cumberland County in triples, hits, and batting average.

Connor Hankins is currently undecided on his future. Hankins said he has considered trying out for JUCO colleges to pursue a baseball career.
