The Monterey Board of Mayor and Alderman voted unanimously to rename Black Bottom Softball and Soccer Field after the town’s former mayor.
The space will now be called Mayor Nathan Walker Sports Complex at Black Bottom.
Walker was the sitting Mayor of Monterey when he passed of cancer at the age of 47 in October, 2022.
Black Bottom is the name of the area on which the complex sits. It is the site of the city’s first high school football game and the home field of Monterey’s semi-pro baseball team that played here in the 1940s.
The park is located at 300 Whittaker Street. A date for the signage to be installed and the dedication has not yet been set.
