LA Set To Begin Interviews For Next Football Coach

Interviews set to begin to find a new head football coach for Livingston Academy.

Livingston Academy began the search for a new head coach after former head coach Matthan Houser resigned for personal reasons. Principal Richard Melton said the school could have a new head coach sooner rather than later.

“You know I don’t have a date marked on a calendar but actually the posting came down last week,” Melton said. “So we expect possibly by the end of this week to start interviews. Hopefully, by the end of next week, we will know something for sure.”

Melton said a panel made up of himself, Athletic Director Leslie Riddle, and a few school administrators will go through applications and interview candidates. Melton said he personally wants the next head coach to put academics first and lead young men.

“On Friday night you know, in football everybody is there to win and there’s a program out there and there’s an atmosphere there and we want that to go well,” Melton said. “But we want of course people to set the right example, all of our staff and our coaches to set the right example and have their expectations clear and then work toward those common goals.”

Melton said he is not sure what the panel will look for in a candidate. Melton said being local and having experience does help and could be factors in the decision process.

“It’s nice to be able to hire people who are local but it’s not guaranteed,” Melton said. “It really just depends on just the realm of who all has applied and what their experience is. It is great to have experience but people have to start somewhere as well so we are looking probably for a mixture of all of that.”

Melton said Houser is welcome to stay around the football program. Melton said he is sure that the community is on the edge of its seat waiting for the announcement of the next head coach.
